Geocaching!

I already shared a bit about our Geocaching fun on my post here. I wanted to post a few more photos from that day since we had so much fun being together and just walking around enjoying the beautiful weather.

A walk around the creek

Last weekend Jason and I took advantage of the amazing (and uncharacteristic) Minnesota fall weather and went for a walk around the creek near our apartment. The walking path is about 3 miles long and allows us to start at our apartment and brings us in a big circle. Below are a few photos we took on our walk, which was just before sunset.

There was a triangular patch of grass along the path and I told Jason that it looks like there should be a statue there, so he pretended to be a statue for me. :-)

We found this carving on a tree along the path and it made us think of Kristen (who's initials, once she gets married this weekend, will be KGZ). After some research we found that 'GZ' in this context likely means 'Ground Zero,' but I'm just going to go ahead and think it has something to do with K.

Pretty sunset on the Prairie.

I love this tree. I think I would think it was creepy in the dark, but in the sunset it's just pretty.

I rescued a woolly bear caterpillar from getting stepped on as he was crossing the path. He was cute and had fun crawling around my hand for a few minutes. He says that the winter is going to be a bad one (indicated by the relatively thin stripe of brown.) Oh well.

This photo doesn't do the sunset justice. The colors were so bright and beautiful.

Photobooth Friday!

I think I should have posted this a few weeks ago, (see the Halloween title? Yeah...) but, better late than never, right? :-) Check out the last photo with Jason peeking over the edge of the booth... haha. Silly husband.

Great Quote

Do you have a great quote that you love? I have a lot... I love quotes of all shapes and sizes. My MIL (Mother-in-Law) emailed me this quote the other day and said that it made her think of me. How sweet is that? It is definitely something I appreciate.

My Mom actually tells a story about my uncle (who passed away when I was young) getting quite intoxicated and standing on a flight of stairs yelling that the escalator was broken. Haha!

So, what do you do with a great quote that makes you think happy thoughts? Well, you put it in a Word document, pick a nice font, put a box around it, and print it on pretty cardstock. That's it! I did just that with this quote and then hung it on my bulletin board of happiness that I have in my craft room. (Yes, 'bulletin board of happiness' is a technical term!)

Soon, I'll have a tutorial on how to make that awesome bulletin board you see there! Pretty, huh? It's so super easy!

Also, after doing a little 'research' (thank you Wikipedia) I found out that the author of this quote, Mitch Hedberg, was a stand up comic that was born in St. Paul, Minnesota (just a hop and a skip from where I live.) Too cool.

PS - My favorite quote of all time is here.

Felt Food!

Felt food seems so be all the rage in the DiY world lately. Below are a few of my favorites. They look good enough to eat! It's amazing how people can create such amazing food out of felt. All these links are to patterns you can purchase on Etsy to make these creations yourself. That is incredibly intimidating to me! I should probably start with something easy... like a potato. I think I felt potato may be easy enough for me. :-)

Easy No-Sew Fleece Scarf Tutorial

Hello all! Welcome to my very first tutorial (hopefully the first of many!) This is a very easy scarf to make for yourself or to give away. This project doesn't use much fabric at all and you can make a bunch of scarves from just one yard of fabric.

First off, gather your materials. You will need:
Fleece - You will ultimately need a piece that is 7" wide by 64" long. Here, I used a yard length to start. This is just regular fleece I picked up... it's argyle so I had to have it!
Scissors
Self-healing mat
Rotary Cutter

Cutting your material: Lay out your fleece on your cutting mat. Mine is folded in this photo.

With your rotary cutter, cut off 7" of fleece, creating a long strip. I didn't unfold my fleece to cut through it.

Mine is 7", but you can make your scarf whatever width you would like. This is the finished width.

Making the fringe: Unfold your fleece and line it up on the cutting mat. Using your scissors, cut strips along the edge of your fleece every inch.

My cuts are 3" long. You can choose to make yours longer or shorter depending on how "fringe-y" you are feeling!

Here are all six cuts finished.

Next, fold the strips up and cut a small slit in the center of each of the pieces.

Once each of the strips is cut it will look like this.

Next, pull the edge of the strip through the slit.

Pull it all the way through. Repeat this for each of the seven pieces.

The finished fringe will look like this. Now, flip over the fleece and repeat the process to the other side of the scarf.

The finished scarf!

The last step: Attach a cute tag to it and give your handmade scarf to someone special. :-)

Holidays in Hand

Jessica Sprague is doing it again... she is offering a FREE online class! Similar to Stories in Hand, this class will help you tell the stories you have locked up in your brain just waiting to come out. What you do with those stories is up to you. (Maybe you could scrapbook them? Wouldn't that be great?)
,
You can sign up for FREE, but hurry because this is the last week to sign up before class starts! Go here for more information and to create a free account at JessicaSprague.com. I've already signed up and can't wait for class to start! Go register and join me!

UP!

If you have not seen this movie, you need to. Honestly, if you like Finding Nemo (who didn't like that movie?) then you need to see UP. It's a close second, if not a tie. Not only is it heartwarming and funny, but one of the things I love about it is that there is scrapbooking in it!

What? What's that? You haven't seen it? What are you waiting for? It came out on DVD TODAY! Go get a copy and thank me after you have laughed and cried through an amazing movie. :-) (Check out the full-length trailer here.)

Weekend fun (and a layout!)

I made a digital layout! Yay! Also, do you see the title of this page? Right up there... it says "me & you"... Yeah, I made that! I actually made a whole pack of wordart which will be coming soon to this blog (free of course!) Stay tuned! :-)

Journaling reads:
"Jason and I decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather this weekend and go geocaching. It was so nice out and we had so much fun! We found 3 caches... the last one was especially difficult but if was a great hide and we are glad we stuck it out and were able to find it."

Skype it up!

Aaaaaw, Skype. How I love thee. I recently got to video chat with my best friend, Kristen. The husbands (or soon to be, in K's case) joined in too. It was so much fun. Instead of saying she misses me, Kristen always says "I miss your face." Well, this was perfect! We got to see each other's faces! I didn't miss her face quite as much after this. I also got to give her a virtual tour of our new place and she got to see the kitties. So awesome. There will certainly be more video chatting in our future if I have any say in it. Sometimes, I just love technology, don't you?

I'm not sure what Dane was doing here... Maybe being a dinosaur? I'm not completely sure, but what I am sure of is that the face that Kristen is making... well, I'm sure she's given him that face before and I'm sure she will make that face around him for years and years to come. :-)
