Birth Announcement (Designed by Me!)

A little while ago I offered to design my friends Jess & Eric's Announcements when they welcomed their little girl into the world. I'm so thrilled that they trusted me with the design of the announcements and that they basically let me do what I wanted with it. No guidelines, just fun. :-)

This is the photo Jess sent to me to use. (Note: I would have gone over there to meet the little peanut and take the photos myself if I didn't live 1,300 miles away. Sad, I know. But I'll get to meet her soon!)

Isn't she just adorable? It's easy to design something like a birth announcement when you have a great photo to focus on.

And here is the completed announcement:

Nice, huh? I'm pretty proud of this design. I love creating digitally in ways that are not scrapbooking. (I love digi-scrapping, but it's nice to mix things up sometimes too.)

To get the photo ready I deleted out the background and made it all black. I then used a few Pioneer Woman Photoshop Actions to make the photo warmer as well as burn the edges of the photo to create more depth.

I then dropped the photo into a template the size of the postcard I was printing (5.47" x 4.21" I printed using Vista Print and had them sent directly to Jess) I then inserted the text around it, making sure to keep the focus on the photo and let the text support it. The dots at the bottom are just a string of periods in two different font sizes. Easy peasy.

So, what do you think? The new parents of Miss Mackenzie liked it. :-D

absolutely wonderful, baby and announcement! I checked out the link to pioneer woman, that was great too. Only to have more time to use these wonderful tools. You continue to inspire me!
